At Djanogly we strive to deliver a high-quality science education that provides the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry, and physics.

Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity, and all scholars should be taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes, and uses of science.

Our five-year curriculum is focussed towards equipping our scholars with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their GCSE examinations. In addition to this, we ensure they leave the academy as broad and balanced individuals who are able excel in further education and their chosen career.

We make no excuses for the incredibly high expectations we have for all of our scholars. The culture of success within the department has been reflected by science GCSE results that have gone from strength to strength over the last few years.

The key to this success is ensuring that all scholars have a secure grasp on the key content and concepts that make up the foundation of the understanding of science. With the help of this mastery of key content, the scholars are then able to apply their understanding to an incredibly wide range of contexts, making them expert and insightful problem solvers.

We have a strong belief in the importance of the application of theoretical and practical approaches to the understanding of science. Djanogly has excellent equipment and facilities; these are used by an energetic and innovative team with a great depth of scientific experience to deliver a curriculum in which practical skills are embedded throughout all year groups.

All scholars at Djanogly study towards at least two science GCSEs (AQA Trilogy Combined Science), with over 99 % of scholars gaining these qualifications in the last two years. Our high attaining scholars are stretched even further than most. Almost half of the scholars at the academy are working towards three separate science GCSEs (AQA Biology, Chemistry, and Physics). This tests their knowledge and skills with challenging new topics such as space physics, chemical analysis, and monoclonal antibodies.

As with all other departments within the academy, the science department works tirelessly to ensure that everyone graduates.

Key Stage 3

Through years 7 and 8 pupils build up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts and are encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about the world from a scientific perspective.

Key Stage 4

Students are then encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes at a more advanced level as they move through years 9, 10 and 11.

Pupils at this level follow either a double or triple award GCSE science curriculum as part of their core studies.


All students are set homework and the time spent on homework will increase as students progress through the Key Stages in line with school expectations.


The Science department has access to a wide range of specialist labs and teaching spaces across the academy site.

We also have access to computer facilities to allow our students to complete key controlled assessment tasks. We have the capability to conduct the full range of experiments and have technicians that support our specialist teaching team.
